Positive reinforcement can be used to establish good and bad behaviours. The practical examples and information given on this site are to reinforce desirable behaviours.
It however does need to be stated that all good behavioural management plans need to be consistent and reinforced. To be consistent in the classroom the teacher will need to maintian the same behavioural expectations for all activities at all times for all students. "A strong and respectful behavior management system is predictability on the part of the teacher. Lack of consistency may promote the student belief that rules aren't really important, and that it is OK to interrupt the learning process or victimize others. Consistency in rule enforcement and recognition of rule compliance is necessary if students are going to see the value and importance of displaying appropriate behaviour."(McIntyre , 2013, p. 1)
It's important to note the methods discussed on this site, are quite powerful tools used on their own to control classroom behaviour, however my recommendation is to combine these as whole of school strategy to effectively manage behaviour. Teachers will use their own individual take on implementing these strategies although the core principles on why these strategies are being used need to be kept in mind.
